You clicked an XYZ Homework assignment in Canvas, D2L Brightspace, Blackboard or Moodle, and instead of the assignment you see a page like one of these:
Connecting to XYZ Homework
Math problems in this assignment are powered by XYZ Homework.

If you already have an XYZ Homework account, enter your login data:
Below that there is a second part that starts “If you do not already have an account on XYZ Homework, provide the information below to create an account…”, with a Create Account button.
What this means
XYZ Homework is asking you to connect your LMS course to an XYZ Homework account. Use your existing account if you have one. Once the connection is saved, later launches from this course normally open that account. If the page keeps returning after you sign in, tell your instructor or support.
Try this now
Pick the one that fits you:
- You’ve used XYZ Homework before (in this class, another class, or at xyzhomework.com): fill in only the top part with that username and password. Then choose Sign In. Use only your own username and password. If you sign in with someone else’s, your LMS keeps opening their account.
- You have an account but forgot the password: don’t create a new one. Reset your password, then open the assignment from your LMS again.
- You’ve never had an XYZ Homework account: fill in only the second part and choose Create Account.
Create Account can make a second account if you already have one
If you already have an XYZ Homework account and choose Create Account with a different email (for example a personal email instead of your school email), you end up with two accounts. Your work, grades and any payment or access code stay on the account they were made on. A second account can mean your code or payment is “missing” and your scores don’t show up where your instructor expects them. If Create Account says your email is already used, you already have an account with that email: sign in with it in the top part, or reset your password. If you already have two accounts, see I think I have two XYZ Homework accounts.
After the connection is saved, the assignment opens. If you see this page again, use the same account and tell your instructor if it keeps returning.
If you see Existing username or password is not valid, check the username (it is the email address you used when you created your account) and try again, or reset your password. If the page has no Connecting to XYZ Homework heading, your course uses an older kind of XYZ Homework link (LTI 1.1). There, a wrong username or password shows no message: the same page just comes back with the username, email and password boxes empty. Create Account with an email that already has an account does the same thing. It doesn’t tell you the email is already used. Don’t try Create Account again with a different email. Check your username and password, or reset your password, and sign in with the account you already have.
Who can fix it
- You: sign in once with your existing account, as above.
- Your instructor: if only some of the course’s XYZ Homework links ask you to sign in, the course may mix two kinds of links. Your instructor can check.
- XYZ Homework support: if you already made a second account, support can connect your payment or access code to the account your course uses. Your instructor decides what happens to work done on the other account. See I think I have two XYZ Homework accounts.
Copy this to your instructor
Use this only if some links ask you to sign in and others don’t:
Some XYZ Homework links in our course ask me to sign in to XYZ Homework again, and others open normally. Could the course be mixing two kinds of XYZ Homework links (LTI 1.3 links and older LTI 1.1 links)?
