There are two kinds of code, and they go in two different places on the Activate Your Account page:

  • A Student Access Code activates your account by itself. It usually comes with your textbook or from your bookstore. You enter it under OPTION 1, and you don’t pay anything on the site.
  • A Discount Code comes from your instructor. It lowers the price when you pay online. You enter it at checkout under OPTION 2.

Not sure which you have? If it came with a book or from the bookstore, it’s an access code. If your instructor called it a discount code, it’s a discount code. When in doubt, ask whoever gave it to you.

To reach the activation page, choose Activate Now in the free-trial notice at the top of the page. At xyzhomework.com, once your trial or your paid access has ended, any page you open takes you to the activation page. If you opened XYZ Homework from your LMS and your trial or your paid access has ended, choose Activate XYZ Homework → instead. If you came from your LMS and Activate Now or Activate XYZ Homework → doesn’t open that page, don’t create a new account: contact support. See How the free trial and activation work.

Enter a Student Access Code

  1. On the activation page, under OPTION 1 (Redeem a Student Access Code), click Choose This Option.

  2. Type the code in Enter your Student Access Code:. For a description of access codes, choose more info.

  3. Choose Redeem Code.

  4. You should see “Account Activation Successful!” and the date your activation expires. At xyzhomework.com, choose Return to Classroom Home. From your LMS, refresh the page or go back to your course and open the assignment again.

Enter a Discount Code from your instructor

  1. On the activation page, under OPTION 2, click Choose This Option.

  2. Under the price in the Order Summary, choose the link that starts Have a discount code.

  3. Type the code in the Enter code box and choose Apply.

  4. Check that the code now shows as applied and the price has dropped. Then check the Total and pay.

Access you buy with a Discount Code covers XYZ Homework only. It doesn’t include XYZ Textbooks access.

Use the account your course uses

A code or payment goes onto the account you’re signed in as. If your class uses an LMS, open an assignment from your LMS course and activate from there. If you think you have two accounts, see I think I have two XYZ Homework accounts before you enter the code.

If an access code doesn’t work

A message that starts “Access Code not found”

Check the code for typos, such as a zero typed as the letter O. If your instructor gave you the code for paying, it’s probably a Discount Code: choose Return to Options, then use OPTION 2.

A message saying the code is a Discount Code, not a Student Access Code

Choose Return to Options, pick OPTION 2, and enter the code at checkout as in the steps above.

“You have already redeemed this Access Code.”

This account has already redeemed the code, and you can’t redeem the same code on the same account twice. Reload the page once. If XYZ Homework still asks you to activate, contact support to check your existing access before paying or using another code. Include the code and the email you use for XYZ Homework.

“Access Code has already been used.”

This code has no uses left. It may have been redeemed on another XYZ Homework account. Check I think I have two XYZ Homework accounts. If you’re sure it’s new, contact support and say where you got the code.

A message saying the code expired on a date

The code can no longer be redeemed. Ask whoever gave it to you (your bookstore or instructor), or activate by paying under OPTION 2.

If a discount code doesn’t work

Nothing changes when you choose Apply

If the price doesn’t drop and the code doesn’t show as applied, the code wasn’t accepted, even if no message appears. Check the code for typos, then confirm the exact code with your instructor. If the code came with your textbook or from your bookstore, it’s a Student Access Code and you don’t need to pay: reload the page to get back to the options, then use OPTION 1 (Redeem a Student Access Code).

A message that starts “Discount Code not found”

Check the code for typos, then confirm the exact code with your instructor.

A message saying the code is a Student Access Code, not a Discount Code

You don’t need to pay. Choose Return to Options and use OPTION 1 (Redeem a Student Access Code) instead.

A message saying the discount code has expired or has reached its usage limit

Ask your instructor for a current code. You can also pay without a code.

A message saying the discount code has already been used

You’ve already used this code for a purchase on this account, and you can use each Discount Code only once. If you just paid, reload the page or reopen your assignment: your account may already be active. If it still asks you to activate, see I paid or used a code, but XYZ Homework still says Activate. If your earlier access has run out, you can pay without the code.

Who can help

  • You: check which kind of code you have, and enter it in the right place.
  • Your instructor: can confirm a Discount Code or give you a current one.
  • XYZ Homework support: can look into an access code that says it was already used, or a code that went onto the wrong account. See Contact support: what to include. Include the code, where you got it, and the email you use for XYZ Homework. Never send your password or card number.
