A new student account starts with a free trial. Before it ends, you activate your account, either with a Student Access Code or by paying online. Until then, a notice at the top of the page shows the date your trial ends.
The notice is a countdown, not a bill. Nothing is charged unless you pay on the activation page yourself.
If your account already has active access, you don’t need another payment or access code. XYZ Homework does not offer renewal or early renewal. If you paid or used a code and still see an activation prompt, see Paid, but still asked to activate before trying again.
Where you see the free trial
XYZ Homework calls the free trial your “grace period”.
From your LMS
When you open XYZ Homework from Canvas, D2L Brightspace, Blackboard or Moodle, a line at the top of the page says when your grace period expires, with an Activate Now button or link.
Activate before that date. Don't wait until the day itself: your trial can end as soon as that date begins.
At xyzhomework.com
If you signed up at xyzhomework.com, your free trial lasts 15 days from the day you created your account, not from the day you joined a class.
While you are signed in, a line in red at the top of each page says when your grace period expires, followed by an Activate Now link.
You can activate at any time during the trial. You don’t have to wait for it to end.
What happens when the trial ends
Your account and your past work stay. You just can’t open your course or your assignments until you activate.
From your LMS
When you open an assignment, you see “Your free access to XYZ Homework has ended” instead of the assignment.
-
Choose Activate XYZ Homework →. It opens a new tab. If no new tab opens, choose Open the activation page here instead. If the page that opens asks you to sign in instead of showing Activate Your Account, don’t create a new account: contact support.
-
Activate your account with a code or by paying.
-
Go back to your course and open the assignment again, or choose I’ve activated — reload.
If you activated before, with a Student Access Code or by paying, and that access has run out, the heading says “Your XYZ Homework access has expired” instead. The steps are the same.
At xyzhomework.com
After your trial ends, any page you open takes you to the activation page. It says “Grace Period Expired” and “Your account grace period has expired. To reactivate your XYZ Homework account, choose an option below.” To continue, activate your account.
Activate your account
-
Choose Activate Now in the trial notice, or Activate XYZ Homework → on the “has ended” screen. The page is headed Activate Your Account. At xyzhomework.com, once your trial has ended, any page you open takes you there automatically, so go straight to step 2. If you came from your LMS and Activate Now or Activate XYZ Homework → doesn’t open that page, don’t create a new account: contact support.
-
Pick one of the two options:
- OPTION 1 (Redeem a Student Access Code). Use this if you have a Student Access Code, for example one that came with your textbook or from your bookstore. Click Choose This Option, type the code in Enter your Student Access Code: and choose Redeem Code.
- OPTION 2 (Activate your Account). Use this to pay online by card. If your instructor gave you a Discount Code, you enter it at checkout: see Using an access code or a discount code. Click Choose This Option. The Order Summary shows the price and the Total before you pay.
-
When it works, you see “Account Activation Successful!” for a code, or “Payment Successful!” for a card payment.
-
At xyzhomework.com, choose Return to Classroom Home. From your LMS, go back to your course and open the assignment again.
For more on the two kinds of code, see Using an access code or a discount code.
Activate the account your course uses
If your class uses an LMS, open an assignment from your LMS course first, and activate from the notice or button you see there. Don’t create a new account at xyzhomework.com just to pay: the payment would go onto the new account, not the one your course uses. If this has already happened, see I think I have two XYZ Homework accounts.
What it costs
The price is shown on the activation page, in the Order Summary under OPTION 2, before you enter any card details. A Student Access Code needs no payment on the site.
A Discount Code from your instructor lowers the price, and it also changes what you buy. If you pay without a Discount Code, you get 3 years of XYZ Homework and also XYZ Textbooks access. With a Discount Code, you get 3 years of XYZ Homework only, without XYZ Textbooks access.
If you might drop the course, read Charges, receipts and refunds before you pay.
